LockIn ("LockIn," "we," "us," or "our") makes a focus timer for iPhone. This Privacy Policy explains what information the LockIn app ("the App") handles, how it is used, and the choices you have. We built LockIn to be private by design: your focus data stays on your device, and there is no account or sign-in.
Summary
- Your focus data (sessions, streaks, timer selections, and settings) is stored on your device.
- LockIn uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) and receives only Apple's privacy-preserving opaque tokens. We never see which apps you have installed.
- There is no account and no sign-in.
- We use two third-party processors: Firebase Analytics (anonymous usage analytics) and RevenueCat (subscription management).
- We do not use App Tracking Transparency (ATT), we do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies, and we do not sell your personal data.
Screen Time and app selections
LockIn shields distracting apps, app categories, and websites during a focus session using Apple's FamilyControls / Screen Time framework. When you choose what to block, selections are made through Apple's system app picker.
The system returns only opaque tokens — privacy-preserving identifiers created by Apple. LockIn never sees which apps or websites the tokens represent, and it never resolves those tokens to real app names or identities. These selections are stored on your device and are used solely to apply and remove shielding during your sessions.
Data stored on your device
The following information is created and stored locally on your iPhone and is not uploaded to us:
- Focus sessions and their history, including durations and Pomodoro rounds.
- Streaks, personal bests, and Training Log data.
- Your app/category/website block selections (as opaque tokens).
- App settings and preferences, such as your chosen timer style and Strict Mode.
Deleting the App removes this on-device data. Because there is no account, this data is not synced to any LockIn server.
Third-party processors
We share limited information with the following service providers so the App can function:
Firebase Analytics (Google)
We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the App is used in aggregate — for example, which features are opened and how often sessions are started or completed. Firebase may collect standard analytics identifiers and device/usage information (such as app version, device model, operating system version, and general event data). This helps us fix bugs and improve LockIn. We use it for anonymous, aggregate usage analytics; we do not use it to identify you personally.
RevenueCat
We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and verify purchase status. RevenueCat processes purchase-related information (such as your anonymized subscriber identifier and the status of your subscription) so the App can unlock paid features and restore purchases. Your payment is handled by Apple; LockIn and RevenueCat do not receive your full payment card details.
These providers act as data processors on our behalf and are subject to their own privacy terms. We encourage you to review Firebase / Google's privacy documentation and RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Permissions we request
- Screen Time (Family Controls) — required to shield apps, categories, and websites during a session.
- Notifications — optional, used to alert you about session start/end and round transitions.
LockIn does not request access to your contacts, location, photos, camera, or microphone, and it does not ask for tracking permission (ATT).
How we use information
- To provide core functionality — running timers and applying/removing app shielding.
- To manage and restore your subscription.
- To measure aggregate usage so we can improve the App and fix problems.
Selling and sharing
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Information is shared only with the processors described above, and only for the purposes described above.
Data retention
On-device data is retained until you delete it or delete the App. Analytics data held by Firebase and subscription data held by RevenueCat are retained according to those providers' policies and our configured settings, and only for as long as needed for the purposes above.
Children's privacy
LockIn is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to address it.
Your choices
- You can decline or later revoke the Screen Time and Notifications permissions in iOS Settings (some features will not work without Screen Time).
- You can delete all on-device data by deleting the App.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in iOS Settings under your Apple ID.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected in the App or on this page.
